William Morady, a 22 year old American of Hungarian descent, born in Pittsburgh and living in Newark, New Jersey was one of 199 men who participated in “The Great American Footrace” in 1928. The race, from Los Angeles, to New York City, was organized by the foremost promoter of the day, C.C. “Cash and Carry” Pyle, to publicize the expanding American highway system, specifically, Route 66, along which they ran from L.A. to Chicago.
